What the Disney + Sora Deal Means for the Future of Media

Hey Reader,

Welcome back!

This was a huge week for OpenAI, as they released a new image AI model that put them back on top of the leaderboards and signed a landmark media deal with Disney.

In this edition, we'll break down all of the big OpenAI news and releases, share with you a prompt that is guaranteed to save you at least one headache, and don't miss the return of our Community Highlight section at the bottom! (Now called "Discussion of the Week")

Let's get right into it...

🪄 App of the Week: ChatGPT Images (GPT Image 1.5)

Use Case: Create and precisely edit images inside ChatGPT

Link: ChatGPT (Free, Not Sponsored!)

Why you should care:
OpenAI just launched a new version of ChatGPT Images powered by its new flagship image model GPT Image 1.5.

The new ChatGPT Image creates up to 4x faster and gives users much better "edit this without changing anything else" controls.

OpenAI also added a dedicated Images space in the ChatGPT sidebar with preset filters and trending prompts, making it way easier to create without perfect prompt engineering.

Here’s how to try the new ChatGPT Images:

  1. Open ChatGPT.
  2. Click the new Images area in the sidebar.
  3. Type a description of what you want ChatGPT to create.
  4. Send the prompt!
  5. Use the preset styles and trending prompts to quickly explore variations.
  6. Iterate in-chat: “Make it more minimal,” “Swap to a retro poster style,” “Add headline text,” etc.

ChatGPT can also edit uploaded images! Simply add your own image to step 3 and describe how you want ChatGPT to edit rather than telling it what to create.

📰 News That Matters: What the Disney + Sora Deal Means for the Future of Media

Link: The Walt Disney Company and OpenAI reach landmark agreement | OpenAI

Why it matters:
This week, Disney signed a three-year licensing agreement with OpenAI to bring some of the most recognizable characters in entertainment to Sora, OpenAI’s AI video-generation platform.

Under this deal, Sora will be able to generate short, user-prompted social videos featuring over 200 characters from across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars.

These videos are designed to be fan-created and shareable, with Disney planning to curate a selection of standout clips and make them available to stream on Disney+.

The agreement also extends beyond video, with OpenAI’s image generation tools also being allowed to create images using the same licensed Disney IP.

Notably, the deal does not include actor likenesses or voices, meaning the AI can use characters, costumes, and worlds, but not human performers.

The ability for users to generate licensed Disney content in Sora is expected to roll out in early 2026.

In addition, Disney is making a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI and will become a major OpenAI customer. Disney plans to use OpenAI’s APIs across internal tools and consumer products, including potential integrations within Disney+.

While the deal itself is significant, the real story here is what this means for the future of media.

One of Hollywood’s most powerful IP holders in Disney has officially embraced generative AI as a consumer-facing creative tool, and they won't be the last.

The other media giants are likely working on their own generative media licensing deals at this very moment, whether that's with OpenAI, Google, Runway, xAI, or any number of other players in the AI space.

It looks like 2026 will be the year when the question forever shifts from "Should AI be used in media?" to "What's the best way for AI to be used in media?"

📝 Prompt of the Week: Understand Anything in "Layman's Terms"

Prompt Formula:
Explain [tax law, specific form, etc...] and how it applies in [country, state, city etc...] to me in layman’s terms for better understanding and compliance. First, explain it in detail, then give me a ‘TLDR’ at the end.

Quick Description:
This prompt lets you use ChatGPT to break down complex rules, forms, or local regulations into something you can actually understand and act on.

Whether you're dealing with U.S. federal law, curious about international law, or just working on your taxes, this prompt helps you quickly get clarity and take action.

How to Use:

  1. Copy the prompt above.
  2. Paste the prompt into ChatGPT (or any other LLM like Gemini or Claude).
  3. Replace [tax law, specific form, etc…] with the rule, concept, or form you're confused about (like “1099 rules” or “self-employment tax”).
  4. Replace [country, state, city etc...] with the relevant region or tax jurisdiction.
  5. Send the prompt!
  6. Read through the detailed explanation or scroll to the TLDR at the end for a quick summary.

This prompt is incredibly valuable for freelancers, small business owners, or anyone tired of Googling tax terms and ending up more confused than when they started.

🎤 Discussion of the Week: ChatGPT to the Rescue

This week, community member Jennifer shared a story that we really want to share with you.

After a serious bicycle accident, she was dealing with a flood of insurance paperwork at the exact moment she couldn’t sit at a computer or read dense documents.

But instead of getting stuck, Jennifer applied what she’d learned in The AI Advantage Bootcamp!

She used ChatGPT’s Deep Research tool to upload the claim package, extract the key information, map out next steps, and even help draft the emails she needed.

What she estimated would take 7–8 hours was ultimately done in about 45 minutes.

Jennifer posted about her experience in the AI Amplifier Club, and the comments section quickly turned into a mini masterclass on what this community is about: members supporting each other and sharing practical ideas.

If you’ve ever felt behind, overwhelmed, or tempted to quit learning AI, Jennifer’s post is a powerful reminder that you don’t always know when these skills will matter most.

That's all for this week!

See you next Thursday.

Much Love,
