Why you should care:

OpenAI just released ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered web browser that aims to revolutionize how we interact with the internet.

ChatGPT Atlas is free to download and use on macOS for all ChatGPT plans (including the free plan!) and makes browsing a true "AI-first" experience.

You can click Ask ChatGPT on any page to talk to ChatGPT will full page context, no copy-paste needed. ChatGPT Atlas also included Agent Mode, which lets ChatGPT actually use your browser to complete tasks on its own.

There's also a new feature called Browser Memories, which lets ChatGPT Atlas learn from your browsing over time to deliver more personalized responses and prompt suggestions.

Here’s how to try ChatGPT Atlas today:

  1. Download ChatGPT Atlas for macOS using the link above.
  2. Log in with your ChatGPT account.
  3. (Optional) Import your bookmarks and history from Chrome or Safari. Important Note: if you import your Chrome or Safari profile, you’re sharing your browsing data and history with OpenAI, so think twice before importing everything.
  4. Send a prompt to get started!

ChatGPT Atlas isn't a world changing release, but it’s a strong first version and a glimpse of where browsing may be headed.

If you’re curious about the future of AI browsers, install it for free and start experimenting with it yourself!

πŸ“° News That Matters: The Fight for the Future of AI and the Internet

Introducing ChatGPT Atlas | OpenAI Blog

Why it matters:

Over the past few years, we've seen several big tech companies try to establish their place in the future by conquering the "AI + web browser" combo.

It's clear at this point that AI will change how we use the internet forever. But it's still unclear exactly how.

Early on, Perplexity was one of the first companies trying to figure out what an "AI-first internet" might look like. Perplexity's AI-enhanced search appealed to a lot of people as an alternative to Google. Perplexity eventually released a full AI browser called Comet, though on release it was limited to users on an expensive subscription plan, so it never really took off.

OpenAI has also been dabbling in AI search ever since the launch of ChatGPT. The first attempts involving Bing Search were...unsuccessful, to put it nicely. However, ChatGPT's web search has steadily improved and is now one of the most used tools in ChatGPT. And this week, OpenAI finally launched the long-rumored ChatGPT Atlas web browser, entering themselves into the race for AI web browser dominance.

In addition to Perplexity and OpenAI, we've seen several other companies attempt to create an AI browser: Dia by The Browser Company, Opera Neon, BraveBrowser, and more.

The goal of all of these companies is clear: they want to take Google's spot as the de facto ruler of the internet in this new AI era.

There's just one problem with that...Google is hell bent on keeping that spot, and Google actually has the resources and user base to make that happen.

Google's LLM models, image generation models, and video models are all state-of-the-art, and Google has been aggressively integrating their AI into their products and services.

Gemini will now suggest replies and meeting times for you in Gmail, you can get Nano Banana to edit any image free of charge in Google's AI Mode tab, and you can create with Veo 3 on YouTube from any mobile phone. Those are just some of the dozens of ways Google is implementing their AI into the platforms people already use.

So what will the future of the internet look like when all of the dust settles?

No one can say for sure, but one thing is for certain: OpenAI, Perplexity, and Google don't control the future of AI. You do.

Vote with your wallet and your time. Use the products and services you like, share them with your friends and family, and help create the future you want to live in!

When Sora access finally opened up, our community wasted no time jumping in and paying it forward.

It all started with a simple post from founder Igor Pogany who dropped two invite codes and encouraged anyone who used one to share theirs in return.

What followed was a beautiful, chaotic chain of generosity with dozens of members sharing their fresh codes, helping each other navigate iOS workarounds, and celebrating every successful sign-up in the comments.
