OpenAI Finally Figured Out Apps in ChatGPT, Huge Gemini Upgrade & More!

Hey Reader,

Welcome back and happy holidays!

This was a surprisingly busy week in AI, with OpenAI adding two new features to ChatGPT, Google making Gemini's best feature even better by adding visuals to Deep Research, and more.

We'll break it all down for you below, plus we'll look back on the year and assess whether 2025 actually followed through on its promise to be the "Year of AI Agents".

So without further ado...

πŸͺ„ App of the Week: New ChatGPT Apps

Use Case: Use Your Favorite Apps Inside ChatGPT

Link: ChatGPT (Free, Not Sponsored!)

Why you should care:

OpenAI just rolled out New ChatGPT Apps that let ChatGPT connect directly to popular tools like Photoshop, Airtable, and Spotify, so you can edit images, work with live data, and create playlists all without leaving a chat.

These new Apps turn ChatGPT into more of an action-taking assistant rather than just a chatbot. Instead of jumping between tools, ChatGPT becomes the front door to the apps you already use.

Here's how you can start using the new ChatGPT Apps today:

  1. Go to ChatGPT and log in.
  2. Open the left-hand sidebar. (Hover over the OpenAI logo in the top left to reveal the sidebar button.)
  3. Select "Apps" from the list.
  4. Select an app you'd like to connect with ChatGPT.
  5. Hit the "Connect" button and follow the directions to connect the app. (Directions will vary slightly for each app.)
  6. Reference the app in a conversation to get ChatGPT to use the app!

This feels like the cleanest evolution of other ChatGPT features like plugins, actions, and connectors.

If you haven’t checked out the Apps section yet, this is absolutely worth exploring!

πŸ“° News That Matters: So...Was 2025 the Year of AI Agents or Not?

Link: Was 2025 Really the Year of Agentic AI, or Just More Agentic Hype? | Futurum

Why it matters:

Exactly one year ago, many experts in the AI industry made predictions regarding the near future for AI, and the consensus was clear: most agreed that 2025 would be the "Year of AI Agents".

Well, 2025 has come and nearly gone, and it's time to review those predictions.

And as is only fair, we should take a look at the arguments on both sides.

First up, the arguments for 2025 being a huge year for AI agents:

  • Agentic platforms moved from demo to default - 2025 was the inflection point where major enterprise vendors stopped treating agentic AI as an add-on and started baking agents into core subscriptions, workflows, and platforms.
  • Every major enterprise suite spent 2025 building the agent runtime layer - Over the past year, it was multi-agent orchestration, governance controls, and unified data foundations that became the battleground. For example: Microsoft advanced Copilot Studio multi-agent orchestration and later introduced Agent 365, Salesforce reorganized its platform around Agentforce 360 and Data 360, and Adobe expanded agent orchestration and introduced enterprise model management through AI Foundry.
  • Deployment momentum shifted from pilots to enterprise rollout - Across 2025, a lot of β€œagentic AI” stopped living in slide decks and started showing up as broadly available product. Vendors kept shipping general availability releases, expanding access, and hardening the operational pieces needed for real deployment. Just as importantly, they wrapped these launches in the unglamorous stuff that actually gets enterprise tech adopted, like accelerators, reference architectures, and services designed to turn early experiments into scaled rollouts.

And now, some counterarguments.

Here are all of the reasons why 2025 was a massive disappointment for those hoping for true AI agents:

  • It was a year of agentic branding more than a year of truly autonomous agents - Agentic AI dominated marketing and product narratives, but the path from hype to reality is still in progress. Much of what shipped looked like guided copilots, workflow automation, and orchestrated experiences rather than consistently autonomous agents completing complex work end to end.
  • The core story shifted from capability to control, cost, and integration - By the second half of 2025, the focus moved toward governance, interoperability, and pricing models. That shift signals the market was still working through how to make agents safe, manageable, and economically predictable at scale.
  • Buyers got tired of claims wars and hard evidence lagged behind the hype - By late 2025, vendor messaging started to blur together, with everyone claiming their approach was uniquely powerful. At the same time, the conversation drifted away from flashy capability demos and toward a tougher question: where are the measurable business outcomes. The fact that the focus is now on proving revenue lift, margin improvement, and productivity gains at scale is a strong signal that 2025 produced momentum, but not enough widely visible, undeniable ROI to match the hype.

So based on the evidence presented to you, the jury, what do you think?

Was 2025 the Year of AI Agents that was promised, or did it fall short of expectations?

πŸ“ Prompt of the Week: Your Year in ChatGPT

Quick Description:

This week, instead of sharing a unique prompt with you, we're recommending you go check out a stealthy ChatGPT update.

OpenAI recently added a limited-time "Your Year in ChatGPT" feature to ChatGPT, and it's absolutely worth checking out.

"Your Year in ChatGPT" is essentially OpenAI's take on Spotify Wrapped or Apple Music Rewind, giving you some insights and analysis about your year on the platform.

The AI Advantage team had a great time checking out our "Your Year in ChatGPT" pages, and we highly recommend you do the same!

Here's how:

  1. Open ChatGPT.
  2. Select the "Try it" button on the "Your Year in ChatGPT" pop-up or open the left-hand sidebar and select it.
  3. Select "Get Started" button.
  4. Select the "Let's Begin" button. (Jeez OpenAI, three buttons to actually get to the feature? Come on, now.)
  5. Enjoy the tour of your year with ChatGPT!

At any point, you can actually start a conversation with ChatGPT about Your Year in ChatGPT by just typing into the chat box at the bottom.

And at the end, it gives you tailored suggestions on some other things you can try out with ChatGPT once you're done with Your Year in ChatGPT. So if you're feeling inspired, go check those out!

🎀 Discussion of the Week: Combining AI Tools for the Win!

This week, Joy wowed the community with a creative experiment that combined professional photography with generative AI to create an impressive 10-second video clip.

Joy started with some pictures taken by her talented niece, then enhanced the images with the new ChatGPT Image, calling its ability to do skin enhancement "Amazing."

She then uploaded both foreground and background images into Kling 2.6 Pro, blending them and transforming them into a full-motion video.

The result was a seamless blend of motion and style that looks straight out of a fashion editorial.

Community members loved it, with one saying, β€œAbsolutely inspiring!!!” and another adding, β€œYou opened my mind to the possibilities.”

If you want to explore how to turn your own images into motion-enhanced creations or just want a community that will cheer you on as you experiment, The AI Amplifier Club is the place to be.
