Huge Siri Upgrade Coming This Year Thanks to...Google?

Hey Reader,

Welcome back!

This week, Apple announced that the next version of Siri will be powered by Google's Gemini models, and we'll break down exactly what that means for Apple and its place in the AI arms race in News That Matters.

Plus we'll show you how to use the new Personal Intelligence feature in Gemini, share the results of our Claude Cowork testing, and more.

Let's get right into it!

Use Case: Automatic Context for Every Gemini Conversation

Why you should care:

This week, Google is rolling out an upgrade to Gemini called Personal Intelligence that allows Gemini to pull relevant information from across the Google services you probably already use.

When it comes to AI assistants, context is king.

When ChatGPT was released, you had to include all context in a single prompt or conversation thread. Then, we got the much-needed upgrade of Custom Instructions that would apply to all future conversations, and eventually Memories that would save select information that ChatGPT deemed important.

Now, we're seeing the next evolution in context for AI assistants, as Personal Intelligence allows Gemini to pull relevant information about you that Google already has securely saved on its servers.

Personal Intelligence is off by default, and users can choose to turn connections on or off at any time. Current connections include Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search.

You also won’t have to guess where an answer comes from: Gemini will try to reference or explain the information it used from your connected sources so you can verify it. If it doesn’t, you can ask it for more information.

The initial rollout for Gemini Personal Intelligence is coming to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., but Google has promised to expand this feature to more countries and to the free tier soon.

Here's how to use Gemini Personal Intelligence:

  1. Open Gemini
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Tap Personal Intelligence
  4. Select Connected Apps (Gmail, Photos, etc.)

Tip: If you don't see the "Personal Intelligence" option, then it likely hasn't rolled out to you just yet.

πŸ“° News That Matters: Gemini-Powered Siri Upgrade Coming in 2026

Link: Apple picks Google’s Gemini to run AI-powered Siri coming this year | CNBC

Why it matters:

If you're reading this on one of Google's Pixel phones, you can activate the Gemini-powered AI assistant and ask it to explain what you're seeing on the screen in one sentence, translate it to Japanese, then send it to a friend, and the Gemini assistant will have it done in seconds.

But if you're reading this on an iPhone and you try to ask Siri to accomplish the same task, you'll probably be met with a response like "Here's a Wikipedia page about Japanese translations..."

This has been the case for years, and the subpar performance of Siri when compared to AI assistants like Gemini and ChatGPT has finally reached the breaking point for Apple.

Though they poured insane amounts of money into developing their own in-house AI models, Apple never ended up producing AI that could compete with Google and OpenAI's offerings.

So this week, Apple officially announced that it is partnering with Google to build the next version of Siri using Gemini AI models.

It's hard to see this as anything but Apple throwing in the towel in the AI race: admitting that they couldn't figure AI out, so they're partnering with a company that has.

This is a massive win for Google, as they'll almost assuredly be on the receiving end of payment in this deal (though no terms have been publicly disclosed) and get the additional reputation win of being chosen over other options in the AI space like Anthropic, xAI, Meta, or Microsoft.

It's also a huge victory for users of Apple products who have had to put up with the annoyingly useless Siri for far too long.

If you fall into that camp, look forward to an upgraded Siri coming to you sometime in 2026!

πŸ“ Prompt of the Week: Turn ChatGPT Into a Professional Editor

Prompt Formula:

I will give you a piece of writing, and I want constructive, actionable feedback that helps me improve it without rewriting or changing the text unless I explicitly ask you to. Preserve my voice, tone, and intent. Be honest, fair, and specific. Tell me what’s working, what isn’t, where clarity, flow, or impact could improve, and flag anything confusing, bloated, repetitive, vague, or credibility-hurting. Point out missed opportunities (hooks, framing, transitions, conclusions). Explain why something should change and offer high-level suggestions or options rather than rewrites. If you give examples, clearly label them as examples, not replacements. Assume I want a thoughtful editorial critique, not silent edits or a rewritten draft. Confirm that you understand and ask me for my writing.

Quick Description:

While ChatGPT can absolutely write for you, it can also be used as a second set of eyes on anything you've written yourself. This prompt turns ChatGPT into a helpful editor that will provide constructive feedback for all kinds of copy: blogs, articles, scripts, etc.

How to Use:

  1. Copy the prompt formula.
  2. Paste it into ChatGPT. (Or any LLM like Gemini or Claude!)
  3. Send the prompt.
  4. Send your written piece once ChatGPT asks for it.
  5. Use ChatGPT's suggestions to create an amazing final draft!

🎀 Discussion of the Week: AI & Human Potential

One of the most popular posts in the AI Amplifier Club this month came from Maria Lifinskaya, who shared an impressive, fully AI-generated video she created after completing the AI Advantage Bootcamp.

Using the AI tool HeyGen, Maria produced a lifelike video avatar of herself to express what the bootcamp experience meant to her and the result blew the community away, inspiring members to go create their own personalized AI avatars.

If you want to learn how to build things like AI-generated avatars and get feedback, inspiration, and support from fellow builders, you should definitely check out The AI Amplifier Club today.
