📰 News That Matters: Netflix Reveals AI-Generated VFX Use

Why it matters:
​Netflix quietly revealed this week that its Argentinian sci-fi series El Eternauta became the first Netflix original to use generative AI in its production.

A scene in the show featuring a building collapsing was created using AI-powered visual effects tools, and according to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, it came together 10x faster than with traditional VFX workflows.

In fact, without the AI tools the production team used, Sarandos said this shot may not have come together at all:

Using AI to assist with VFX expanded what was possible on the show's modest budget.

Sarandos called it a way to help creators make films and shows “better, not just cheaper".

But Netflix is clearly hoping for both. El Eternauta may be the first Netflix original to use AI for VFX, but it certainly won't be the last based on how successful this first test was.

So what does this mean for the future of entertainment?

Whether the industry likes it or not, AI tools are here to stay.

Writers and actors pushed back hard on AI during last year’s strikes but in the end, it’s called show business for a reason.

If AI can bring production costs down and timelines up, studios will use it.

And when it comes to consumers, the truth is, the vast majority of people do not care how a film or TV series was made. They don't care whether a human made it, a human using AI tools made it, or an AI made it all on its own.

At the end of the day, people just want great entertainment.

And it looks like we've officially entered the era where if you're not using AI tools to help create it, you're falling behind.

Prompt Formula:

Create a pie chart showcasing some of the most interesting or relevant data. Add a list of 5 possible action items you would suggest for me based on all of your work.

Quick Description:
​This prompt turns ChatGPT Agent into your personal data analyst capable of pulling insights, generating visuals, and suggesting next steps.

How to Use:

1. Open ChatGPT using a Plus, Pro, or Teams account.
2. Select "Agent" from the tools dropdown in the chat box.
3. Copy and paste the above prompt into the chat box.
4. Replace [CONTENT] with a description of what you want analyzed.
5. Replace [TIME FRAME] with the period of time you want analyzed.
6. Send the prompt!

ChatGPT Agent will generate a plan and may ask you to confirm before it gets to work. If it does, hit "Continue".

ChatGPT Agent will then gather the data (from files or the web), build out a spreadsheet, create a relevant pie chart, and suggest 5 smart action items based on what it finds. Use this anytime you want an at-a-glance view of what’s working, what’s not, and what to do next.

This week, both OpenAI and Google DeepMind had AI models win gold medals at the International Mathematics Olympiad.

This marks the first time an AI has achieved a gold-medal performance at the global mathematics competition, but just how important a milestone is this?
