Google's Massive Push to Win the AI Arms Race

Hey Reader,

Welcome back!

Google dominated headlines this week with their 2025 I/O event, which kicked off with a keynote announcing numerous new AI products, models, updates and more.

This is Google's push for AI dominance, and they're going all in with the release of Veo 3, Imagen 4, AI Mode in Search and more. We'll break down the most important announcements and show you how you can use Veo 3 today.

All that and more await, so let's dive right in...

🪄 App of the Week: Google Veo 3

Use Case: Generates Truly Stunning Video & Audio

Why you should care:

The keynote for Google I/O 2025 kicked off with this intro video, which was created using video clips generated by Google's latest AI video model: Veo 3.

During the keynote, Google announced that Veo 3 would be immediately available on multiple platforms, and the internet wasted no time. Thousands began testing Veo 3 on the day of release, and the response has been a resounding "WOW."

The most remarkable part of this new model is that it generates audio along with the video. Where most video generators give you a completely silent clip, Veo 3 gives you sound effects, music, speech, or whatever else fits the video clip you've requested.

Here's the easiest way to use the new Google Veo 3 right now:

  1. Sign up for Google's AI Pro Plan. It's $20/month, but if you've never signed up for Google's AI Pro Plan before, you'll get the first month free. Perfect for testing Veo 3!
  2. Go to the Gemini web app using the link above.
  3. Select the "Video" button in the chat box.
  4. Describe your video with a text prompt in the chat box.
  5. Send the prompt!

After a minute or two, Gemini will deliver your video output for you to review. If you like it, save it by selecting the "Download" button on the top right of your video output.

If you're not satisfied, tell Gemini why in a follow-up prompt, and it will consider your feedback and create another output. Repeat until you've got a video you're happy with.

(And remember to cancel that Google Pro subscription before the month is up if you decide it's not worth it for you!)

đź“° News That Matters: Google's Push for AI Dominance

Why it matters:

Google just threw down the gauntlet in the battle for AI dominance.

At this week’s I/O keynote, Google rolled out a tidal wave of updates that made one thing crystal clear: Google is betting the house on generative AI.

If you want to know about everything announced and released at Google I/O, check out CNET's Liveblog for every single detail.

Here are the key standouts if you just want the highlights:

First up is AI Mode in Search, which is a new tab that lets you ask complex questions and get results that are (in theory) far more useful than traditional Google Searches. In addition to links, you'll get detailed answers, charts, visuals, and personalized shopping help. It's a not-so-subtle attempt to keep users from drifting toward ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Microsoft’s Copilot.

Google also launched two new creative models: Imagen 4 for image creation, and Veo 3 for video generation. While Imagen 4 is impressive, generating images on par with top models like Midjourney v7, Veo 3 is absolutely mind-blowing. The Veo 3 model generates high-quality video outputs complete with audio that syncs up with the video. Veo 3 is capable of adding sound effects, music, speech and more.

Another standout from the keynote was Project Astra, Google’s still-unreleased mobile AI assistant. Astra looks to be very similar to the ChatGPT Mobile App, but with more agentic features. In a demo, Google showed off an impressive use case where Astra helped fix a mountain bike by pulling up email receipts, checking specs online, and calling a local shop. Astra is still only available to "trusted testers" via a waitlist and will likely stay that way until Google is confident that Astra can do everything ChatGPT can do and more.

Google also released a desktop app, an iOS app, and an Android app for the popular NotebookLM platform, plus NotebookLM got a few new tricks like an expanded mind map view.

But perhaps the most talked about announcement from the entire keynote was the new AI Ultra Plan. If you want full access to all of the most powerful AI tools and platforms Google has to offer like Veo 3, it's going to cost you $250/month. Depending on your perspective, that's either wildly overpriced, or it's simply the new cost of entry to use the best AI tools on the planet.

So what does this all mean for you?

It means Google is terrified of falling behind and is fighting hard to keep you inside its ecosystem. With OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic rolling out smarter assistants and more powerful models, Google can’t afford to coast on search and ads anymore.

So expect more AI everywhere: in your email, your video calls, your browser tabs, even your shopping carts. Google’s vision of the future is one where its AI handles everything, and we just tap to confirm.

How much control you’re willing to give up in that future? That’s still up to you.

📢 Community Highlight: Get AI to FINALLY Sound Like You

If you've struggled to get AI like ChatGPT to write in a style or tone you're happy with, don't worry. You're not alone.

This is perhaps the most common complaint expressed by people wanting to use AI for real business purposes. It's hard to get ChatGPT to match a specific writing style.

But it's not impossible.

While custom instructions and detailed prompts can help, the absolute best way to customize an AI to match a writing style is through fine-tuning.

Most people hear that term and immediately tune out, which is a shame, because it's truly the most effective method right now, and it's a lot easier than you probably think.

If you want full control over your AI's outputs, you should learn how to fine-tune AI models.

In The AI Advantage Community, we recently published an entire course dedicated to Fine-Tuning, and it's designed so that both beginners and advanced AI users alike get a ton of value out of it.

You can use this link to check out everything else The AI Advantage Community has to offer to decide if it's the right place for you!

That's all for this week!

See you next Thursday.

Much Love,
